Who are we…

Northend Christian CDC (NECCDC), is the proud owner and operator of the Oakland Avenue Urban Farm (OAUF), situated on our seven-acre campus in the Historic North End of Detroit. Our journey began in 1999 when Reverend Bertha L. Carter embarked on a mission to feed the homeless in the Northend Historic Community. Starting from the back of her van, she provided food items sourced from Kroger's meat packing houses and bakeries. Over time, Reverend Carter's vision expanded, leading to the establishment of NECCDC as a 501(C)3 non-profit organization in 2000.

At NECCDC, we firmly believe in celebrating the life and art of our community, challenging the traditional narrative that often defines our neighborhood solely based on poverty, crime rates, and substandard housing. Instead, we recognize that the talents and aspirations of our community residents are the Northend's greatest assets.

Our approach to community development is multi-faceted, focusing on four main objectives: Youth Development, Arts and Culture, Workforce Development and Community Development. Through these pillars, we strive for the comprehensive revitalization of our beloved historic Northend community.

Our mission is centered on developing the historic Northend community by implementing interactive youth development programs for students aged 12 to 24, creating green job opportunities, providing quality housing, disseminating resources for the underserved, and promoting healthy lifestyles through sustainable agriculture, education, and community beautification.

Join us as we work hand in hand with our neighbors to uplift and empower our community. Together, we can build a brighter future for the Historic North End of Detroit.
