History and Mission

Oakland Avenue Urban Farm was founded in 2008, at the instigation of local pastor Reverend Bertha L Carter who challenged her congregation to address the neighborhood’s need for food security and healthier food choices. And for the past decade, against a backdrop of extreme social and economic need, the Farm has been a stabilizing anchor for the community. Today the Farm continues its work of increasing economic security and and environmental sustainability in the North End by encouraging healthy lifestyles enriched by diverse cultural, physical, social and educational programs.

Vision
